Description

This was a project with two goals - to test the iExos-100 in cold weather and to capture a galaxy. I think it went well! The data also uses 3 subframes from Oct 2022.
Date: Nov 18 2022 + Oct 21 2022

  • 24 x 120 sec subs
  • 3 x 180 sec subs
  • No calibration frames

  • Acquisition Software - Kstars/Ekos running on Astroberry via Raspberry Pi, PHD2 for guiding


Processing:
  • Stacked on Deep Sky Stacker - all subs, and saved as a TIF file
  • Edited using Pixinsight:
    • Dynamic Background Extraction - emphasis on vignetting at the corners
    • Photometric Color Calibration
    • Multiscale Linear Transform for noise reduction
    • Histogram Transformation to stretch image
    • Starnet2 to separate stars from the image + Clonestamp for fixing dust motes
    • SCNR to remove Green cast
    • LocalHistogramEqualization to make the dust lanes prominent
    • Curves Transformation - focus on balancing the background blotch
    • GAME script for masking the galaxy
    • ColorSaturation for adjusting to taste
    • Curves Transformation for adjusting to taste
    • Saved as TIF

  • Topaz Denoise
    • Slight noise reduction keeping the details intact

  • Topaz Sharpen
    • Minimal sharpening to taste

  • Back to Pixinsight
    • PixelMath to combine stars back into image
    • EZ Star Reduction to reduce star size
    • Save as TIF and JPEG
